Review for Canon EOS 1D
Airport Addicted, from Think Tank Photo is largest photo bag I've ever used. And it carries a lot, and at times too much. I've taken 2 trips with this bag and it is everything it's advertised to be. I've been able to load it down with, Canon EOS 1DmkIIn, 20D, 500mm f/4L, 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L, 70-200 f/2.8L, 24-70mm f/2.8L , 16-35mm f/2.8L , 85 mm f/1.8 , 580EX Speedlite, 1.4 & 2.0 TCs, extra batteries, filters, BH-55 ballhead, Epsom P-2000, and Apple iBook. In this configuration it held 46 lbs of equipment. At a maximum carryon size (9" x 14" x 22") I can stow my 70-200 and 100-400 on end. In the same configuration I can stow my Canon EOS 1D mk IIn mounted to the 500mm with 1.4 converter. I don't recommend travelling with them mounted, but once in the field you don't have to take everything apart to stick it in the bag.
It's certainly rugged having to hold up to this carrying capacity and being bounced thru Yellowstone park. All zippers are heavy duty. There are pockets all over the place. I found 2 I didn't know about while going thru airport security. It has plenty of padding. The compartments of easily accessible. It is shipped with more compartment dividers than you can use. It is easily configurable for just about any use. I've since reconfigured the bag for my normal use (I don't take the 500 along all the time) and can now carry my video equipment with me.
This bag doesn't look like a backpack, but it certainly performs as one. I've trekked thru 4 airports with it on my back and even loaded its been a comfortable carry. This is important item to me, at 46 lbs this bag is formidable. and having had back surgery I was hesitant to purchase this bag. It has exceeded my expectations. It comes with broad shoulder pads and a waist belt. These are easily concealed under the ample back padding on the case. I'm not sure I'd want to go on an all day hike with it on my back, but It's never been a bother running from one airport gate or terminal to terminal.
I've travelled on US Airways, Northwest Airlines, and America West Airlines with it. I've had it weighed once and was able to get onboard as a carryon by removing the iBook and dropping its weight to the maximum carryon weight of 40 lbs. Plan on getting to the airport early with this bag. It's taken as long as 30 minute to get thru security with this bag. It holds so much that you can be assured of a manual check when travelling. I've had no problems with security and they've always been polite but expect them to search EVERYTHING. When travelling on smaller commuter airplanes I've had to gate check this bag, twice. It's been returned with everything intact.
