Review #3

Starting with the camera on the left:
Canon EOS Elan 7N
Lenses top left to right:
Canon EF 70-200mm f/4 L USM
Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II
Canon 24mm f/2.8 (under the 50mm)
Canon EF 100mm F/2.8 USM Macro Lens
Camera on the bottom is the 30D and under it is the over priced wired switch that I am still dabating if I should take it back and get the timer control.
Space next to it has a home made hood, t-rings and adapters for telescope use, the charger, extra battery and other stuff.

Top of the lid, manuals, a graycard, pocket guide from kodak.

Front pocket filters, step rings other stuff.
Side pockets a quick release plate for my cheapo tripod that needs replaced. Other side some lens cleaner and cloth.

Need to get my Rocket blower in there and few extra things like film just gets set someplace where it will fit

Review #4

(added 30th March 2007)

I had a LowePro nova5 aw, great bag, I recommend it highly. I managed to get it STUFFED full of gear including; 6 lenses, video camera, flash etc. It was CRAZY full. Then I bought a new lens and that was it, I had to buy a bigger bag. I decided to go MUCH bigger so I had room to grow, I'll show that bag in another post. So what's ironic is that I only shot this bag when I bought a new one, unloading and retiring it (sorta).

Here are the contents:
1. Lowepro Nova5 AW
2. Canon EOS 20D with BG-E2 grip and E1 hand strap
3. Canon 430EX Speedlite with stenfo diffuser
4. Canon EF 2X Extender II
5. Canon EF 28mm f/1.8 USM
6. Canon EF Nifty 50, Canon EF 50mm f/1.8
7. Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L USM w/hood
8. Canon EF 70-200 f/2.8L IS USM w/hood
9. Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6
10. Sony DCR-HC65 MiniDV video camera (see notes)
11. Cord for Sony video camera
12. Rocket Blower
13. Battery cassette for battery grip
14. Remote Control For Sony video camera
15. Microfiber cloth
16. Minimag lite, lens brush and cigar tube (see notes)
17. Cleaning solution and lens paper
18. Battery charger for canon batteries
19. Extra tapes for video camera
20. Memory stick adapter (video camera)
21. Adidt M1 shutter release cable (see notes)
22. Canon off-camera shoe cord 2
23. USB cable for Canon
24. 24 AA batteries
25. 3 Canon Batteries
Not pictured (damnit)
26. 6-in-1 Card reader
27. Tarmac strap (kinda bungee)
28. Extra battery for the video camera.

Notes:

10. The video camera. I started carrying that after being told by a guy I THOUGHT was police officer. He was in a uniform, driving a car with sheriff written on it etc. Turned out to be civilian traffic investigator. He threatened to arrest me and take away my camera if I took ANY picture of an accident. Now, you can threaten me, you can say you're going to lock me up, but DON'T threaten to take my camera This will get you in trouble. It did, and I got an apology later. The idea here is that when you need to record something other than still, you'll be glad you have it, it's saved my ass and caught some interesting stuff. You can wear it around your neck and just record audio if you have to or prop it up on a rock and go about your business. It's not too big or heavy, the cord is more bulky..

16. So, those aluminium cigar tubes fill hold a lens brush PERFECTLY, you can generally get a cigar shop to give them to you or buy a cigar from them, smoke it, give it away, whatever, they're perfect and keep your lens brush clean.

21. Adidt brand shutter release. If you can find them, they're about half the price of the canon branded shutter release and EXACTLY the same; push the button, take the picture, push the button to lock position, take many pictures... I got my at samys (samys.com) but for some reason they don't show on the web page, I got mine in-store. I don't know why but these are kind of hard to track down, I think I paid 15$ for mine.

Ok, there's the rundown on my (old) bag. Funny thing, I noticed about a month before I got my new bag (after owning this one for about a year) that there was a zippered compartment on the bottom, bam, rain fly! Nice waterproof rain covert that fit on in a way that it didn't cause issues with the strap, neat feature I was clueless about for a long time.

To answer your question, YES, it was heavy. The strap did a GREAT job of making the load easier to handle, it's padded and kinda offset at the shoulder so that it carries better. If I carried this around for more than a couple of hours, which I did often, it'd start to be a little uncomfortable, but the fact that I could carry ALL of this with no discomfort for a couple of hours is a testament to it's design.

Heh, if you look at that second picture, it doesn't look like all of that stuff is in there, it is! MAGIC!!
Any questions?

(12 was in the lid pouch, 13,26,27,28 and 35 was in the rear pouch that rested against my hip)

Review text:
This is a great bag that, while quite bulky, is easy enough to carry around and fits my entire kit in with room to grow. I was surprised at just how much extra room I had, so now my panasonic GS400 lives in there too. Makes it quite heavy having all that stuff in there, but it holds its shape really well and the padded strap takes all the weight.

Likes about the bag:
Sturdy. Good Padded Strap. Big inside while still being portable. Fits 2 SLRs + 1 medium video cam + 5 lenses + accessories.

Dislikes about the bag:
Could be easier to reorganise internally - needs to come with more different sized inserts to accomodate different layouts.

Review #2

I'll be heading to Taiwan for a couple weeks early this summer, and realized that my Tamrac backpack was gonna be way too heavy/bulky to easily get around, so I went and ordered a Lowepro Nova 5.

My dad's got the Nova 4 which is a good size, but with the Nikon 70-200 being slightly longer than the Canon, I had to go one size up (his BARELY fits in his). Not taking that lens is not an option :-P

Everything fits, albeit with almost no room to spare, and it's MUCH lighter than the backpack. It should be nice out in the field. What this means, though, is that the Nikon D100 and 105 stay home.
