In the never ending quest for the perfect camera back I recently added the Lowepro Fastpack 250 to my collection. I own a slingshot 200 which is great for trekking around Manhattan because of its easy access and superior comfort compared to a similar sized shoulder bag. However, after 5 or 6 hours of walking on hard asphalt, your shoulder does tend to tire.

Backpack support systems are superior in comfort to slings, but access has always been a negative. When I read about the new Fastpack series from Lowepro, I decided it was worth a try. The series comes in 4 different sizes and I choose the 250 which can also carry a 15.4 inch notebook. I rarely carry a laptop in the city, but the slot is also very convenient for magazines, newspapers, maps, etc.

Photos with Lowepro Slingshot 200 AW

Pro :
Superior comfort compared to slings and shoulder bags
Inexpensive ($90 at BH)
Easy access without having to put the bag down
Holds pro body and 70-200 mounted
Convenient water bottle net
Cell phone holder in shoulder harness
Perhaps the perfect small street bag for my type of photography
Slot for a 15.4 inch Notebook. Also useful for maps, magazines, travel guides, newspapers etc
Lifetime warranty

Negs :
Not all weather. There is no built in rain cover
No tripod holder
No sternum clip
Camera area is 1 inch narrower than the slingshot 200
Slings still have easier access but at the price of single shoulder support
