Seems like I'm always searching for the perfect bag for travel. My travel equipment consists of a Canon 20D, with a 24-105mm f4L mounted, and two other L lenses, a 17-40mm and a 24mm f1.4. Being L lenses, they are larger than non L lenses. Finding a bag that is compact yet accomodating is difficult.
The Velocity 3 accommodates all of the above listed, plus room for a charger, compact flash cards, plus room for miscellaneous travel items; a guide book, pens and a notebook. If I had to, I could squeeze in a flash too.
The main compartment is user configured, and will accept the camera with a lens mounted and two auxiliary lenses.
There are two front pockets. The zippered one has two open pockets, and one full width mesh pocket, and a couple of pen sleeves. The unzipped pocket is full width, and could easily accommodate a guidebook or like-sized book.
On the sides are a cell phone sleeve and another smaller sleeve.
The back side has a sleeve that is meant to pass over a rolling piece of luggage handle to take the load off when passing through airports and the like. On the back of that sleeve is a full width zippered pocket suitable for tickets and maps.
The top flap also has a decent sized zippered pocket.
Now the flap top. I am not a fan of flap tops. I had an old Sundog bag, that had a simple zip top, which was the most convenient design for actual use. That design is difficult, if not impossible to find, so I'm stuck with flap tops, and I've learned to live with them.
Another positive feature is the top grab handle.
Overall, it is a quality, capable bag, well made, and doesn't scream "camera bag." However, it is of a size that might suggest "laptop" so nothing is gained security wise.
While it is a good to excellent bag, it still isn't my perfect travel bag; something which may not exist.
