This review is based on comparing it to "professional" equipment. Remember, Tamrac calls this not just a "pro" bag, but a "Super Pro" bag...
I have used only Lowepro bags or other bags made in America, in the past - since the early 1980's. I still have a Lowepro 35 from '84. I only purchased another camera bag because I needed another one to be able to also carry a laptop with my camera gear.
I chose Tamrac sight unseen, because it was made in the U.S.A. and I was told it was a good brand.
I must say that the design of the 619 is fair to good.
The problem is in the materials. they are all "lightweight"
(1). Thin fabric, which feels like tissue paper when compared to the old Lowepro 35.
(2). Tiny, cheap looking/feeling zippers.
(3). Webbing & Straps made with thinner material.
(4). Bottom of bag is without any feet or protection whatsoever to protect it from abrasion, scrapes, dirt, etc. Just the same thin fabric as everywhere else on the bag. Inexcusable for a camera bag in this price range.
(5.) There are 10 "loops" or "attachment" points on the Lowepro bag, how many on the Tamrac 619?
(6.) The flap or "lid" is oversized to cover the zippered area - only It just scrunches up and away from the sides of the bag, not covering the zippered area it was designed to do so.
(7.) The "padding" feels thinner and "cheesy". On my 25 year old Lowepro, it is not only feels thicker, it hasn't crushed or deformed like the Tamrac has. The Tamrac arrived New In the Box, with the padding already crushed and deformed. Think of a "box" with a lid and the two shorter sides at the top are "crushed in" and no longer match the lid. That is how this bag was, when it arrived.
All in all, I don't see anything "super" or "pro" about it. It is just a run-of-the-mill camera bag that happens to be made in America that comes with an exorbitant price tag.
With the old Lowepro Pro 35, you can immediately see and feel the quality that is not there with the Tamrac 619 "Super Pro 19".
I am all for supporting American Jobs and do go out of my way to purchase U.S.A. made goods. The problem is when the goods are less of a QUALITY than something costing a Third less made somewhere else. I then have to question whether or not they deserve my hard earned dollars.
If this was a "Made in China" camera bag selling for a third less, it would get an 8 rating, because one could expect that type or level of quality and materials for that price.
I returned the Tamrac "Super Pro" bag to the Camera Store, the only camera bag or photographic accessory I have ever returned in 35 years of photography for poor quality.
